About this Center

The NY-Manhattan MBDA Business Center is a business development consulting firm managed by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC). The center is committed to augmenting economic parity in performance between minority and non-minority companies. The center utilizes strategic partnerships and the diverse business and professional backgrounds of its principals to improve minority-owned companies’ performance and profitability.

NCRC is an association of more than 600 community-based organizations that promotes access to basic banking services including credit and savings, to create and sustain affordable housing, job development and vibrant communities for America’s working families. It is the only non-profit in the country that operates three U.S. Department of Commerce Minority Business Centers (located in New York City, Washington, DC and Houston), as well as a small business teaming program, an SBA Women’s Business Center and a community development small- and micro-business fund.

Staff Information

Paul Sawyer, Director – NYC MBDA Business Center

Paul Sawyer

Paul Sawyer was born and raised in New York and has a strong supplier diversity background. He worked for the New York City Housing Authority’s Department of Business Opportunity where he increased the number of women and minority vendors doing business with NYCHA. From there he became the supplier diversity manager for DDB, a national advertising firm, where he assisted companies with national MWBE certifications, and client and agency diversity goals in New York, Dallas, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago.

He attended the University of California at Berkeley, and studied Non- Profit Management at The New School of Social Research.  His other work experience includes working with several small business owners at the Studio Museum in Harlem and his time as Executive Director of the Friends of Van Cortlandt Park where he worked closely with local businesses and local business improvement districts.
