Topic: Doing Business in Mauritius
Host: U.S. Ambassador to Mauritius Shari Villarosa
Date, time, time zone for call: Tuesday, December 10, 2013; 9:00 a.m. EST (6:00 p.m. MUT)
Deadline for RSVPs: December 4, 2013
Brief description of call: Since independence in 1968, Mauritius has developed one of the most successful and stable economies in Africa, with a per capita income of over $9,000. Frequently rated highly in global business rankings and well-known in the region for its judiciary and respect for rule of law, this small but diverse country is now actively marketing itself as a ‘platform to Africa’ and a link to East Asia, and has aspirations of becoming a regional ICT hub.
Ambassador Villarosa will make opening remarks and provide an overview of the economy of Mauritius, discuss its business and investment climate, and provide a candid assessment of opportunities, realities and risks for U.S. businesses. The Ambassador will be joined by Economic Officer Patrick Koucheravy, Economic Specialist Shariff Jathoonia, and Economic Assistant Rahmat Caunhye for an interactive question and answer session.
