The MBDA Office of Research and Knowledge Management (ORKM) is responsible for the performance of ongoing research relevant to minority business enterprises and the identification, management, and dissemination of MBDA’s institutional knowledge.

Position: ORKM – Internship

Project: Research and Knowledge Management

Preferred Grade: Unpaid Student Intern

Leadership: MBDA anticipates successful candidate will participate as a team member and work closely with the Chief Knowledge Officer. He/she will have project responsibility duties.

Position Description:

This internship position supports the work of the Office of Research and Knowledge Management.  The successful candidate will be responsible for researching information on minority business enterprises to create a number of products.  The intern will also support knowledge management initiatives and the planning and execution of events in support of research and business development programs.

Work Assignments:

  • Identify and analyze data on minority businesses based on the 2007 Survey of Business Owners released by the U.S. Census Bureau in July 2010, and throughout 2011.

  • Produce fact sheets by state and selected cities on minority businesses based on the 2007 Survey of Business Owners.  

  • Develop charts and table for inclusion in the Report on the Overview of the State of Minority Businesses.

  • Support adoption and utilization of MBDA’s collaborative site PartnerNet.

  • Support development of Economic Index for MBEs

  • Research and write a white paper on a topic related to minority businesses challenges and opportunities for growth.

  • Support events and efforts with academics, minority businesses and other stakeholders to expand the knowledge on minority business enterprises.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Skills Required:

  • Economics, Mathematical, or statistical skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Writing skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and Word formats
