George MuiGeorge Mui, a Business Development Specialist with the Minority Business Development Agency’s Office of Business Development, received the 2013 Asian Exemplary Civic Service Award and the President’s Silver Category Call to Service Volunteer Award, last month during a ceremony in Chicago.

The awards were part of Asian Chronicle USA TV’s 12th annual event where the public access channel honors exemplary Asian philanthropists, humanitarians, and exemplary civic volunteers who have paved the way or have made significant contributions for the betterment of the lives of the less fortunate, the impoverished and the under-served.

“I’m extremely honored to have received these awards,” Mui said. “The Asian American community is very diverse and they need a voice and platform to showcase their cause. I’m very proud to help all of the Asian American community and this recognition means a lot to me.”

Mui was recognized for his community advocacy work with the Asian American community. He volunteers on the national board of the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) and the OCA-Chicago board of directors, where he just completed his second year as chapter president. Under his leadership, he initiated the OCA-Scholarship fund, OCA-Chicago Mentoring for Asian American Professionals, and the Asian American Business Expo, all are firsts in Chicago. He also started the Asian American Executive Network, a nation-wide Asian American professionals and entrepreneur advocacy group. For his community service, Mui is also an inductee of Chicago’s Asian American Hall of Fame.
