David Segura is a man on a mission to not only create jobs, but to also help to keep them in the United States.  His company, VisionIT was developed out of his community activities, which included volunteering weekly to teach youth in Detroit about the field of technology and the growing Internet trends.

His deep commitment to the community and to using the talents of diverse populations in the field of information technology is an integral part of his company’s success.

The Detroit, Mich., based company was founded in 1997 by Segura. VisionIT delivers consulting and technology services to corporations and government agencies. Among the many accolades VisionIT has received, this year it was ranked in Hispanic Business Magazine's Hispanic 500 as the 27th largest Hispanic-owned business in the U.S., and for the ninth year in a row it was ranked in the magazine’s annual list of the 100 fastest growing Hispanic businesses in the U.S.

VisionIT has 900 internal employees and 3,500 contractors under management operating in the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and India.

Revenues for VisionIT more than doubled, from $101 million in 2009 to $230 million in 2010, largely as a result of expanded contracts with existing and new Fortune 500 clients, including Pfizer, HP and Capital One, and growth in its international operations, including Mexico.

The Minority Business Development Agency has played a major role in developing the company’s domestic and global growth.

“VisionIT has worked strategically with the MBDA over many years initially assisting us with our growth in new major markets as well as introductions to major Fortune 500 clients,” said David Segura, CEO, VisionIT. “Today, we have become one of the largest minority-owned businesses in the technology services industry through leveraging this network of MBDA leadership, supplier diversity leaders, purchasing, and corporate executives.

“VisionIT also supports other MBE firms in the marketplace through teaming and subcontracting opportunities while continuing to invest in MBDA sponsored events,” Segura said.

Recognizing his outstanding work, Segura is a past MBDA award winner during its annual National Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week Conference. This year’s MED Week will be held September 27-30 at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC.

VisionIT LocationsVisionIT has built a strong customer base among Fortune 500 corporations. The company built internal systems for tracking and managing the flow of contract opportunities and developed industry best practices for the recruiting and deployment of personnel. By the end of 2004, VisionIT was highlighted in Inc Magazine (Inc 500) as one of the fastest growing privately-held companies in America.

Keeping in step with cost savings initiatives within Fortune 500 corporations, VisionIT developed a solution to manage these suppliers using a supplier management model including processes and technology while becoming a trusted supplier to manage the payments to sub-vendors.

Supporting some of the largest IT managed services programs in the United States with other major IT integrators, VisionIT leveraged these experiences and senior personnel to win directly the largest IT outsourced contract in the U.S. with a public school district.

Creating a strong global base including India and Mexico, VisionIT leveraged its own off-shore and near-shore solutions while investing heavily in Puebla, Mexico in its technology recruiting and delivery center. VisionIT is further developing its global reach in Latin America while strengthening its lines of business incorporating additional key talent in various industry sectors. VisionIT will continue to lead by being an innovator operating at a high-performance level with a diverse leadership and operational team.

VisionIT has also implemented one of the largest Master Service Provider programs in the U.S. for a Global 150 corporation.

Never forgetting where he started, Segura continues his major community goal to increase the number of women, African-American, Hispanic, and Native-American individuals in the field of Information Technology through internships, scholarships, and job opportunities.

VisionIT leverages its extensive knowledge of urban markets and has been highlighted by BusinessWeek magazine as the #1 fastest growing company headquartered in the inner city.

VisionITVisionIT leverages its headquarters in Detroit as well as hubs in the U.S. and near-shore and off-shore facilities around the globe. The company is creating opportunities for a diverse workforce by offering senior-level talent a lower base salary for the many benefits of working on major engagements while living close to their facilities. VisionIT also works closely with local universities, combining college students and recent college graduates to provide an additional pool of low-cost, highly educated professionals in the U.S.

Segura operates in low-cost office space in urban markets with government incentives. The combination of low-cost, high-quality professionals and inexpensive facilities helps to create a cost-competitive environment.

“VisionIT has been dedicated to smart growth – both diversifying services and our geographic footprint – to meet the increasing need for information technology by companies across the globe,” said VisionIT CEO David Segura. “Seeing our company continue to rise on this prestigious list is an accomplishment for every team member of VisionIT.”
