Brief description of call: Brazil’s Northeastern State of Pernambuco has had one of the fastest growing economies in the country over the last decade. Economic highlights include the Suape Port and Industrial Complex in the South, which features not only one of the most efficient ports in Brazil but also shipbuilding and petrochemical production, among other industries; in the North, an automotive pole will be anchored by a new Fiat factory, which will produce 250,000 cars per year when complete; and the West is home to a major agricultural center known especially for its mango and grape production. An information and communication technology hub housing hundreds of companies dominates the historic center of the State’s capital Recife, a host city for the 2014 World Cup. Infrastructure projects to support the recent growth abound. Special guest Secretary Amancio will open the webinar by providing an overview of the State’s economic growth and investment needs, focusing on the aforementioned areas as well as alternative energy, consumer goods, and metal working. Participants will have the opportunity to pose questions to Secretary Amancio and Principal Officer Pitts in advance and during the Q&A portion of the call.
