Zambia is a landlocked country located in Southern Africa. Neighboring countries include Angola, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe. The geography of Zambia is mostly high plateau with some mountains. The government system is a republic.
Zambia is a politically stable, multi-party democracy, rich in natural resources. It has a population of 13 million people with 39% urban population. Zambia has experienced positive economic growth for 13 years (7.3% in 2012) and has a growing middle class in population centers. The country has strong monetary and fiscal policies and a low inflation rate (below 7%).
Zambia is a member of the African Union (AU), African Economic Community (AEC), and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).
The U.S. government released the presidential policy directive “U.S. Strategy Toward Sub-Saharan Africa”  in June 2012. In support of its implementation, during her November 2012 visit to Johannesburg, Acting Secretary of Commerce Rebecca Blank launched the “Doing Business in Africa” (DBIA) campaign, bringing together resources of various United State government agencies to increase trade and investment opportunities for U.S. businesses in Africa.
