The U.S. Government, in keeping with the National Export Initiative , is committed to sponsoring an unprecedented number of trade missions focusing on the most innovative and competitive sectors of our economy. The Department of Commerce trade missions are overseas programs for U.S. firms that want to explore and pursue export opportunities by meeting directly with potential clients in their markets.
Most MBDA clients are uniquely positioned to export. MBDA clients have the skills and relationships that make them some of the most effective exporters in the U.S. economy. Many have familial, personal, and business relationships in foreign countries. Combined with cultural knowledge and familiarity with local business practices, MBDA clients are well suited for exporting, as evidenced by the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2007 Survey of Business Owners. Minority-owned businesses are twice as likely to export, three times more likely to boast international operations, and six times more likely to transact business in a language other than English.

This Mission will directly support the "U.S.-ASEAN Expanded Economic Engagement” or E3 Initiative announced by President Obama at the 2012 U.S.-ASEAN Summit. The "E3” Initiative focuses on enhancing ASEAN members' capacity for advancing projects that will open up opportunities for U.S. companies in the region. The E-3 Initiative is a new framework for economic cooperation designed to expand trade and investment ties between the United States and ASEAN, creating new business opportunities and jobs in all eleven countries.
Participants will forge new relationships, develop existing relationships, and deepen their understanding of these emerging markets. With new opportunities arising, interest in these markets is growing, and new stakeholders are entering the picture resulting in increased urgency to expand U.S. commercial interest in these markets.
