Please Comment on Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Agency Implementation Plans

Post a comment

On behalf of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (Initiative), I would like to invite you to submit comments to agency plans posted online at www.aapi.gov under “Agency Implementation Plans” in the right-hand column.  In order for the federal government to take meaningful steps, it is critically important that the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community provide feedback to help guide the final review.

As mandated by Executive Order 13515, the agency plans have been developed under the direction of the Initiative Co-Chairs, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke.  The agency plans will drive the Administration’s effort to improve the quality of life for AAPIs and are the vehicle by which the Federal government will break down barriers and address the unique challenges the AAPI community has faced for decades.

Twenty-three federal agencies created the plans over a four-month period with input from numerous offices within each agency, many AAPI community organizations, and the President Advisory Commission on AAPIs.  Each plan details the agency strategic activities and performance outcomes for the next one to two years.

On January 18, 2011, eleven plans were released with additional plans to be released on a rolling basis through the end of February.  The public comment period will be open for 30 days from the posting date of each plan.  At the close of the comment period, feedback will be forwarded to the agencies for consideration.  Agencies will then have 30 days to review comments, make appropriate edits, and submit their final plan.

I look forward to your participation in the comment period.  I also ask you to encourage your colleagues and networks to go online, review the plans, and provide feedback.  If you have any questions regarding the agency plans, please email us at whiaapiplans@ed.gov.  Thank you for your continued commitment to the AAPI community.

Sincerely,
Kiran Ahuja
