This year's National Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week awards ceremony recognized Weeminuche Construction Authority (WCA) as Minority Construction Firm of the Year.  The company was formed in 1985 by the Tribal Council of the Ute Mountain Ute Indian Tribe, to create a Tribal-owned business enterprise that would offer employment and increase income for the Tribe. WCA is wholly owned by the Tribe and has functioned as a successful construction company under the same name since its inception.

WCA has extensive experience in heavy construction, including site preparation and clearing, earthwork and grading, plus drainage and utilities. Weeminuche has historically performed most of its work within the four corners states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah. WCA is an 8(a) Small and Disadvantaged Business graduate. In addition, they are a classified as a U.S. Small Business Administration HUBZone business. The award was presented by MBDA National Director Alejandra Y. astillo and National Deputy Director Albert Shen at the annual MED Week awards ceremony held at the San Diego Convention Center.
