Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 was an extremely productive year at MBDA and we are excited to share some of our many achievements. We’ve completed a major organizational restructuring that enabled us to increase funding to MBDA Business Centers. We also launched several “specialty” MBDA Business Centers including: the Atlanta MBDA Business Center, which is now staffed to provide expert guidance for minority-owned businesses in the healthcare technology and advanced manufacturing industry sectors; the San Antonio MBDA Business Center that has expanded their services to include expertise in exporting to Latin America; and the MBDA Federal Procurement Center, the first MBDA Business Center to solely focus on federal contracting.
Despite a challenging economic environment, in FY 2011 MBDA supported the creation of approximately 6,000 new jobs by assisting minority-owned businesses in obtaining access to nearly $4 billion in contracts and capital—exceeding last year’s record level. During the first three years of the Obama Administration, MBDA facilitated a total of over 16,300 new jobs—an increase of 20% over the prior 3-year period. We anticipate similar, if not better results for FY2012. Last month MBDA hosted the 30th Anniversary of the National Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week Conference in Washington, DC. It was one of the most successful MED Weeks, attended by nearly 1,300 individuals representing a broad range of industries from across the globe. During the conference MBDA announced our partnership with Export-Import Bank that launched the “Global Outreach Alliance” and numerous seminars and workshops focused on the global supply chain and emerging markets. MBDA also entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Healthcare Supplier Diversity Alliance that establishes guidelines for a working relationship aimed at opening doors to the healthcare industry for minority-owned firms. These partnerships broaden the Agency's resources and services available to client.
