2017 Distinguished Supplier Diversity Award

Presented to the organization or individual whose business practices have had a significant impact on the growth and development of minority-owned firms.

The Distinguished Supplier Diversity Award is presented to California Water Service. California Water Service (Cal Water) is the largest investor-owned American water utility west of the Mississippi River and the third largest in the country. Formed in 1926, the San Jose-based company serves more than 477,900 customers from 28 Customer and Operations Centers throughout the state. Cal Water is the largest subsidiary of the California Water Service Group, which also includes Washington Water Service Company, New Mexico Water Service Company, Hawaii Water Service Company, HWS Utility Services, and CWS Utility Services. As a whole, The Group provides high-quality regulated and non-regulated utility services to approximately two million people in 100 communities. Since Jose Espinoza assumed the supplier diversity program manager position in 2014, Cal Water has consistently exceeded the 21.5 percent supplier diversity goal by including diverse supplier proposals for every competitive sourcing proposal.

California Water Service (Cal Water) was honored with a 2017 Distinguished Supplier Diversity Award this week by President Donald J. Trump as part of National Minority Enterprise Development Week. Cal Water’s Supplier Diversity Program Manager Jose Espinoza accepted the award at the White House on the utility’s behalf. The award was given to Cal Water by Trump and Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross on behalf of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency for the company’s efforts to support the diverse business community.
