The Future of Business is our fall virtual events series on connecting AAPI business owners and entrepreneurs to federal resources and opportunities. Leading experts from multiple federal agencies will present tools, strategies, and best practices for businesses as they look towards the future. They will also share updated information on recovery resources as it relates to the health pandemic.

WHIAAPI’s The Future of Business Virtual Events Series with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
(October 27 @2pm EDT)

The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) invites you to participate in The Future of Business Virtual Series with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) on their efforts to expand the innovation ecosystem to individuals from underrepresented groups. This will be a great opportunity to learn about the different resources and tools that USPTO provides to support businesses and inventors as they grant U.S. patents and register trademarks. There will be special remarks from Laura Peter, Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the USPTO. Also joining us will be Branden Ritchie, Director of Government Affairs and Oversight; Kimberly Alton, Deputy Director of Government Affairs and Oversight; and Cordelia (Dede) Zecher Special Advisor to the Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Director of the USPTO. Special guest moderator, Jan-Ie Low of Nevada, President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Commissioner.

WHIAAPI’s The Future of Business Virtual Events Series with the U.S. Department of Labor

The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) invites you to participate in The Future of Business Virtual Series with the U.S. Department of Labor. US Department of Labor will provide AAPI businesses up-to-date information on federal workplace requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic. OSHA and the Wage and Hour Division will share their agencies' recent enforcement and robust assistance work around new rules and regulations to help businesses succeed and workers stay safe during these unprecedented and challenging times.

WHIAAPI’s The Future of Business Virtual Events Series with the Office of Space Commerce, U.S. Department of Commerce

The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) invites you to participate in The Future of Business Virtual Series with the Office of Space Commerce (OSC), which is the principal unit for space commerce policy activities within the U.S. Department of Commerce. Its mission is to foster the conditions for the economic growth and technological advancement of the U.S. commercial space industry. We are honored to be joined by Director of OSC, Mr. Kevin O’Connell. Topics that will be discussed include the future of space business, building a diverse workforce, and OSC’s plans for new initiatives and programs to reach MBEs. Also joining us will be Dr. Diane Howard, Chief Counsel for OSC; Jason Y. Kim, Senior Policy Analyst of OSC; and Grace Lee, Commissioner of the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

WHIAAPI’s The Future of Business Virtual Events Series: The Export-Import Bank of the United States
(October 8th at 2:00pm EDT)

The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) invites you to participate in The Future of Business Virtual Series with The Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM), which is the official export credit agency of the United States as an independent, self-sustaining Executive Branch agency with a mission of supporting American jobs by facilitating the export of U.S. goods and services. The virtual event is on Thursday, October 8, 2020 and it will start promptly at 2:00pm EDT with special welcoming remarks from the Chairman of the EXIM Bank, Kimberly Reed. Following Chairman Reed’s remarks will be a presentation and Q&A session with Michael K. Jackson, the Business Development Specialist in the Minority & Women Owned Business Outreach Group in the Office of Small Business of EXIM. Mr. Jackson will share tools for exporters as well as the special initiatives and assistance for AAPI-owned businesses.

The virtual event is on Friday, October 2, 2020 and it will start promptly at 2:00pm EDT. We are honored to have the Assistant Administrator of the Office of Women’s Business Ownership, Sery Kim, Esq., presenting on the business development opportunities and resources for AAPI Women Entrepreneurs as well as updates on disaster relief resources. The White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) invites you to participate in The Future of Business Virtual Series with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) & U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) on October 1, 2020. The virtual event will start promptly at 2:00pm EDT with special opening remarks from the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Elaine L. Chao, who is Co-Chair of WHIAAPI, alongside U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, who we will hear from later in the series. This White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) event is a collaboration between the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOC), and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to inform AAPI-owned small businesses about the tools, resources and opportunities available at these three cabinet-level agencies.
